Initially, children receive a complete developmental assessment to determine the current level of functioning and appropriate programming needs and placement. Most children begin a treatment program that consists primarily of individual therapy services based on the principles of applied behavior analysis which includes specialized instruction in the areas of communication, behavior, cognition, daily living, social and play skills. As children acquire language and instructional skills, we offer additional educational services including an Early Education classroom program, a Primary Education classroom program and after school Enrichment Programs for school-aged children. We offer regularly scheduled parent training clinics as well as additional therapy services including occupational therapy, sensory integration, and speech and language services. We frequently collaborate and work with our local and surrounding area schools by providing direct therapy services to children and training for teachers, program aides and parents.

Clinic Program
The clinic program at The Riley Center provides individual behavioral therapy based on the principles of applied behavioral analysis (ABA) for children diagnosed with autism. The ABA approach includes specialized instruction in the areas of communication, behavior, cognition, daily living and social and play skills. It is the only proven method used to treat autism.

Early Education Program
The Riley Center is pleased to announce a partnership with Huntsville Christian Church Preschool and Kindergarten. Beginning August 2008, students in the Riley Center's Early Childhood Program will participate in an inclusion program that is designed to promote generalization of skills, language and teach social skills in a typical preschool setting. During part of the day, our students join the children at HCC for activities which may include: outdoor play, calendar activities, learning center time, snack/lunch, art activities, and chapel time. HCC has a magnificent music program that we participate in daily. All inclusion is supported by Riley Center staff who have specialized training in autism. In addition, HCC students join Riley Center students to take part in an instructional social skills model called Integrated Play Groups. IPG are structured playgroups that utilize the natural childhood event of "playing" to address the unique needs brought about by autism. This program has documented benefits for both autistic and typical peers. As part of this partnership, peer training along with teacher and parent education in autism is offered. The Riley Center is extremely grateful for this opportunity and thanks the wonderful and compassionate director and staff at Huntsville Christian Church Preschool and Kindergarten for their outreach.

Primary Education Class Program
The Riley Behavioral and Educational Center operates a private school for children ages 7-11. The private school focuses on academic instruction for the primary grades based on the curriculum recommendations in the Alabama Course of Study and research-based best practices in the field of special education. This highly structured classroom environment is language-based and seeks to prepare primary education students for transitioning into mainstreamed classrooms with typical peers. All students receive instruction in the four core academic areas of Reading, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. They also receive one-on-one academic tutoring to enhance skills in phonics, math, and/or handwriting.

Staff Training Clinics
The Riley Center provides training in applied behavior analysis including the discrete trial teaching method and behavior modification techniques to qualified individuals desiring employment in the field of Autism and other related disorders. Regular teacher and therapist trainings are conducted for our staff on a regular basis to ensure effective therapy, interventions and teaching techniques are being utilized.

Parent and Caregiver Training Clinics
Parents and other caregivers are required to attend monthly training clinics with the clinic administrator, director and/or lead therapist. Parent Training Clinics provide parents and administrators the opportunity to discuss the child's progress and/or concerns on a regular basis. Parents are given an overview of their child's current education and behavior programs and encouraged in ways to generalize acquired skills in their home and other settings. Parents are also given the opportunity to receive "hands-on" training with their child.

Related Outside Services
The Riley Center works in conjunction with other related professionals and therefore can refer children, parents and caregivers desiring or requiring additional services.
